Owen Smith (owen.smith@net-tel.co.uk) The newly constructed barracks of the Pan-Tahsian army in Vamdrey, based on the ruins of the Tower of Noise, a gull priest funeral temple burnt to a shell during the Battle of the Caterwauls, and still exhibiting the distinctive hexagonal floorplan of old Vamdreyan temple building. The temple was originally used for the dispatch of the elderly and infirm, who would be chained to the tops of its six towers and be mercilessly pecked to death by the temple's coterie of genuine terran herring gulls. The "P.P.Q.P" above the temple entrance is made of hammered and twisted iron missiles from Vamdreyan naval ballistae. An old Vamdreyan legend had it that, when the gulls left the Tower of Noise, Vamdrey itself would fall. To this end, the invading Pan-Tahsian soldiers had orders to shoo the beasts from the building. Rumours of Pan-Tahsian army troops throwing fantastically winged Vamdreyan gull priests from the top of Gullcote Tower with the ironic words, "Fly NOW, you bastards" are unsubstantiated. Note to Sholari: The "thing" atop Gullcote Tower is identical to other "things" atop the Prefectory Tower in Meard, and St. Joan's Cathedral in Simbi. It is a small wooden shelter with drop-down walls, used as a weather cover for the isho cannon. There is, as you are aware, no isho cannon in Vamdrey, but Gullcote Tower is highly secret and used for storing guano for the Colmon-in-Command's durlig garden. HE's not having anyone else know the secret of the size of his Koistran Green Glories.
